Rainer and I went hiking to the Bauernhausmuseum on Saturday. It wasn't that far from my house! This is a view from partway up the trail, looking over part of the city. Slightly to the left of center is the soccer stadium. Bielefeld's soccer team recently went to Division II from I.

The nice outdoor cafe at the museum. We had wonderful kochen, then saw someone get a kartoffelpuffer, so we split one of those too! Basically a potato pancake, which I haven't had for years. Tom's family used to fix them.

This museum consisted of several buildings fixed as they would have been 100 years ago. There are almost-daily activities in the summer, focused on children.

On Sunday, we hiked again along a trail that Rainer and his wolfhound ran on each morning (the dog is now in Florida with the family). This time, he brought a family friend Ursel, whose husband is away on a business trip. She brought the family dog, Frieda, who is a SchweisHund, a Swiss hunting dog. Frieda is the family pet. She has the most gorgeous black (schwarz) face, the softest ears, and was just a calm dog enjoying the day. Here's a picture of her and Brandi. Do you get the feeling Frieda doesn't know what to think of such a small dog?
